i've been thinking all day about my retro sunday post. Was almost going to do a richard gere retrospective after watching him in a movie last night, but he doesn't exactly inspire me. Of course I loved PRETTY WOMAN, who didn't? And him running through a facctory in a white suit, but i truly wasn't sold on a whole post just for him. And then I was driving home and I hear this as I was flicking around the radio stations
My love,
Theres only you in my life
The only thing thats bright
My first love,
Youre every breath that I take
Youre every step I make
And i
(i-i-i-i-i)
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do...
And your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love
And of course I knew straight away that it had to be a post about ENDLESS LOVE.
I don't recall when I first saw it, as it was a little saucy for a young K when it came out in 1981, but I know that when I saw it there were tears! My heart broke! First love, it's an amazing thing that grabs hold of you and is hard to shake, as Jade and David find out. At least my first love didn't set fire to my house and get sent to a mental institution, just makes it a little bit harder doesn't it??? Brooke Shields was so beautiful in this, fresh from BLUE LAGOON, and the quite cute Martin Hewitt, whose film debut appears to have been his last successful one! He has had a few tv appearances since and runs a home inspection business in California these days. (you may have caught him in TWO MOON JUNCTION....hmmm see what I mean!) Other noteable appearances in this film are Jade's brothers who are played by none other than James Spader, (it wasn't really a successful 80's film without an appearance by him), and Ian Ziering before his voice broke (of 90210 fame). Notably, it was also Tom Cruise's first onscreen appearance, all 40 seconds of it!!!
My memories of this film are of love and drama and tragedy and sexiness and the pervy mother! I know it was critically panned, but that has never stopped me enjoying a film. Worth another look? Maybe I'll give it a go and let you know! (apparently not officially available on DVD!) I have posted a clip but warning, it is a little saucy, as there is a shortage of clips available obviously due to lack of DVD! Who knew???
So saucy I can hardly watch!! Great extra factoids K. Kudos to you. Iann Z - now that was a surprise.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful was Brooke Shields!
