Don't get me wrong, I think he looks kinda fun, especially when drunk with kerrieanne (see below), and I like the fact that he can make fun of himself, and I think it is funny to watch him in the 'Kokomo' video with the Beach Boys (see below), but I still don't think he is hot.

Melrose Place - you seriously don't want to live there.

OK - I am the queen of the crap TV review obviously. I have just sat through the first two episodes of the new Melrose Place and I hope you appreciate the lengths I go to for this blog!! Mind you it was not nearly as BAD as the original although strikingly similar in tone. Sydney and Michael are both back and both still evil. The first episode starts with the murder of Sydney who is found stabbed and floating in the Melrose Place pool no less. If you're like me you'd be thinking it was hardly worth the cameo credit but never fear Syd is a permanent fixture thanks to the flashbacks which seem to be troubling the rest of the residents. The set up is that we are left to wonder who killed Syd as everyone seems to have a motive.

I must say that compared to 'The Beautiful Life' the acting to brilliant, which is to say that it is fine. The cast is in fact very appealing and sassy but I think I personally have moved on from the drama and over the top storylines that characterise Melrose Place. It has the advantage of being a very slick production but I don't think I'll be worried if I miss an episode. I'm sure the 20 somethings will adore it and I hope it goes well if only for the sake of seeing Heather Locklear back where she belongs.

Retro Sunday

In 1983 I was in year 9, and completely mesmerised by the mini-series RETURN TO EDEN.

It was the Dynasty of Australian TV and it was completely addictive, evil, glamorous, and camp.

Return To Eden originally appeared as a lavish 6 hour mini series filmed in various glossy locales around Sydney and the Barrier Reef; Rebecca Gilling headlined as Stephanie Harper who gets caught up with evil tennis pro Greg Marsden (played by James Reyne), his plot to murder Stephanie to get his hands on her money go awry when she manages to escape from the crocodile infested swamp he left her for dead in. Stephanie, in full on Dynasty mode, undergoes plastic surgery and emerges transformed as Tara Welles intent on revenge on Greg.....

.

What a story line! What a cast! What a winner! I thought this show was fantastic and can remember vividly how stunned I was when Greg threw Stephanie to the crocs. The music is so sinister it still creeps me out watching it today.

Apparently it is now available on DVD as is the following series so I may just have to add it to my 'wish list'.

They Just Keep Coming

Next up on tonight's viewing is The Vampire Diaries - starring the delectable Ian Somerhalder. This is a bit of a mix between the teen love story of Twilight, the creepiness of True Blood, and the classic love triangle of all good shows. The leads are very likable and it is a lot creepier than I was expecting. I must say that I wish Ian was playing the good brother but even as the epitome of evil he is distractingly good to look at. Elena, at the center of this love triangle, is played by Nina Dobrev and she is a joy to watch.


The casting is great, the atmosphere reminiscent of 'Forks' and the unfolding of the romance is, of course, addictive. I think I would have to say I prefer the acting here to 'The Beautiful Life' but all in all a ripper night of viewing.
(By the way - keep your eye out for Katerina Graham who plays Elena's best friend Bonnie - she is gorgeous)(Oh, and she was in '17 Again' and you know I love a link to Zac!)

New Show Update

I've just watched the first two episodes of Ashton Kutcher's new show - The Beautiful Life. I have blogged about it previously so thought I'd review it so far.
It is as addictive as we thought it would be with Sara Paxton being the standout. It felt a little stilted to start with and I must say I found Mischa Barton and Elle McPherson distracting but by episode two they weren't quite so bad. In fact I think Elle will be OK as the head of the model agency once she warms up a bit.
It has all the ingredients for a great show - bitchy girls, hot guys, in fact bitchy guys too, a sweet girl with a secret, a farm boy with a heart of gold, fashion, money, fallen stars, secrets and lies etc etc. Good stuff, if they can improve the acting.
I'll be tuning in again to see if it improves.

J. Has Another Prediction

I wasn't sure if I would make the effort to watch ' The Vampire Diaries', the new American TV show. But now that I have met one of the vampire brothers I am definately going to be tuning in. The series airs here on GO on Sept 28th. And this is Ian Somerhalder!

The show is based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith. The plot revolves around Elena Gilbert, a young heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers—one good, one evil—who are at war for her heart and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Sounds good and if Ian is anything to go by then it will look good as well.

I even found this shot of Ian working with my Kristen Bell in 'PULSE' which sells him for me.

I have been following them on twitter for quite a long time now, and was almost to the point of 'unfollow', as they tweet so much and are quite annoying, but the more I get into their twets, the more I realise they are using their powers for good and not evil. They seem to support so many causes and are really putting them out there to the people. Photos above are from the launch of the book HALF THE SKY. “Half the Sky” shares the idea that by empowering women, especially in undeveloped countries, it promotes growth and stability while answering many societal and economic problems.

And they are cute together, and really in love!

A classy single man

This will be an interesting film! A SINGLE MAN is the directorial debut of Tom Ford, who also adapted the screenplay from a 1964 novel of the same name, said to be "one of the first and best novels of the modern gay liberation movement." And if the name Tom Ford is ringing any bells, its no surprise, he is the man who turned GUCCI around almost singlehandedly in the 90's. So you just know that this film will be stylish.

Firth plays an English novelist, teaching literature at a Los Angeles college in 1962 and grieving—delicately, obsessively, heroically—for his lover of 16 years, dead in a car crash. Seeing no reason for his life to go on, George meticulously rehearses his own suicide, by gunshot, but has trouble finding a practical or aesthetically elegant way to carry it off. So over the course of a long day, he listens idly to his colleagues' worries over the Cuban missile crisis; has dinner with his oldest friend, a London socialite (Julianne Moore, never more glamorous); and indulges some erotic flattery from one of his students (Nicholas Hoult). All these are distractions as George prepares for death in the manner of a samurai or Roman Senator, and bathes in memories of his precious Jim (Matthew Goode)

Nicholas Hoult is the 'About a boy' kid, and more recently seen in 'Skins' and Matthew Goode (seen pictured with Colin in the photo above) was the lovely creature who fell in love with the first daughter (mandy Moore) in CHASING LIBERTY. (anyone? I so know J will know it!!)

Anyway, I think this film looks fascinating and is receiving quite alot of attention while doing the rounds of the film festivals. There is even some Oscar whisper for Colin.

i have been following Charlyne Yi on TWITTER for quite awhile, can't even remember how I found her, but she is cute and funny! She is a comic who wanted to make a doco on love, but during filming things happened!!! Finally, this film is getting an Australian release, but in Melbourne is exclusive to the Nova.
