Smallville - Day 3

It's all about the fabulous Lois Lane today.  Star reporter at the Daily Planet, Clark Kent/Superman's sidekick, friend and even eventually - wife!

The appearance of Lois Lane was first based on Joanne Carter, a model that creator Jerome Siegel eventually married and Lois's personality was based on Torchy Blane, a reporter featured in some 1930 films and her name was taken from Lola Lane, one of the Lane sisters who were a singing act in the '20s and '30s.

Depictions of Lois Joanne Lane have varied since her character was created in 1938, spanning the 70-year history of Superman comic books and other media adaptations. During the Silver Age, she was the star of Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane, a comic title that had a light and frivolous tone. However, the original Golden Age version of Lois, as well as versions of her from the 1970s onwards, portray Lois as a tough-as-nails journalist and intellectual equal to Superman. One thing has remained throughout the character's 70-year history, however: she has always been the most prominent love-interest in Superman's life and is seen by many fans as the archetypical comic book love interest.

Big shoes to fill for any actress taking on the task of portraying Ms Lane, and there have been many over the years.  Who is your favourite Lois?

Noel Neil played T.V's Lois Lane from 1948-1950 along side of Kirk Alyn's Superman.



Noel  once again played Lois Lane in 1954 and stayed with it till the end in 1958 along with George Reeves.
 
 
 
 
 

Phyllis Coates was the second actress to play Lois Lane, however she only played in the role for 1 season in the 1951 Adventures of Superman.
 

 
Margot Kidder was the actress who played Lois Lane along side Christopher Reeve's Superman for the first 4 comic book superhero turned into Superman movies.
 
Margot played Brigette Crosby in Smallville, as an emissary of Dr. Swann (played by her Superman co-star, Christopher Reeve).

From 1993-1997 Terri Hatcher starred as Lois Lane in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman with Dean Cain's Superman/Kent.






 
 
 
 
 

Next up is the lovely Erica Durance who portrays Lois in Smallville.

The Hunger Games Casting

I have been watching with great interest to see who they cast in the movie of the fabulous series The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
I will go so far as to say that this series has been the best thing I have read since the Harry Potter series!  Big call I know - but then it's well deserved.

Obviously it has struck a chord with millions of readers around the world and Lionsgate have jumped on board and are turning it into a film.

Hunger Gamers around the world have been weighing in with who they think would make the perfect Katniss Everdeen with candidates such as Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) high on the list but it was announced on Thursday that the part has officially gone to .... Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone)

Jennifer was nominated for Best Actress at this year's Academy Awards for her portrayal of Ree Dolly in 'Winter's Bone.

Apparently author  Suzanne Collins couldn't be happier with the casting. "Jennifer's just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave," she said in a press release. "I never thought we'd find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can't wait for everyone to see her play it."

The novel has sold over 3 million copies in US and is the first of a three-part series, so you can see why this is such a huge deal for Jennifer. The films have the potential to be as big as 'Twilight,' and we all know what happened to the stars of that series.

The movie will be directed by Gary Ross, and is slated to be released on March 23, 2012.

Katniss Everdeen is in my list of Top 10 Book Heroines and although Jennifer looks far from my idea of Katniss in the first photo, I think this one will give you a better idea of how she will look in the movie.

Tatt For Zac

Today we were discussing the lovely Zac - nothing unusual there - but this time we were talking about his new tattoo which is on his inner bicep, which led on to Vanessa's new neck butterfly and questions as to why people get them where they do. 

I just found a site that answers all our questions for us.

The Man Cardy

Star's Hollow firmly believes that every man looks better in a cardigan. 

By cardigan we mean the fabulous button up jumper.  Slowly we are trying to encourage all the boys we know to embrace the joy and don this magnificent item.  Our theory is that all boys look hotter in a man cardy.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Many of the Star's Hollow favourites (Zac, Ryan, Adam etc) are already firm believers but there are many others out there that are giving it a good crack.

I have been collecting 'men in cardigans' for months now so I may need to break it down into themes....

10 Days of Smallville - Day 2

Green Arrow, played by Justin Hartley, is a vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology. In his secret identity he is Oliver Queen,  a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist. 

He is the leader of the Justice League and one of Clark's best buds.  But by far his greatest claim to fame is his ability to remove his shirt at any and every opportunity.  Oliver Queen has won online awards for being the TV character who is unnecessarily shirtless most often.  Who's complaining - not me certainly.

See what I mean - and this is only the tip of the iceberg!

They are my new favourite couple that isn't.  I figure that if New Weekly is reporting it then it's far from a reliable story but when I went looking for images I became more and more convinced that if they're not yet then they definitely should be soon!What do you think?

10 Days Of Smallville - Day 1

While we are on the topic of Lois let's get to our first day of '10 Days Of Smallville'.  (dedicated to 'Superboy' who requested today's topic)

There are two characters on Smallville who seem to randomly get their gear off whenever an opportunity arises, and sometimes for no particular reason what so ever.  The most prolific of these is Oliver Queen or the Green Arrow as we know him - but you'll have to wait for him until tomorrow.  Today we are celebrating the near nakedness of the gorgeous Lois Lane played by Erica Durance.

One of the most memorable and earliest of Lois's strips was way back in 2005 in 'Exposed'. 
One of the most hilarious Smallville episodes ever and according to our male fans - also extremely hot.

We also received an eyeful of Lois whenever she went anywhere near one-time love Aquaman...

There was the episode where Clark accidentally walks in on her while naked - but as this is a PG site I'll leave that one to your imagination.

It turns out the Erica is not adverse to a little near-nakedness in real life either...

You can imagine the shedding of clothing whenever she and Oliver Queen got together - poor Clark, how on earth is he going to keep up?

Stay tuned tomorrow for the male equivalent - I promise it will be worth the wait.

Casting Lois....

I've just heard a rumour that Jessica Biel is now at the  top of the list for the role of Lois Lane in the new Superman movie! (supermansupersite.com)  At this stage it is unconfirmed so we'll be keeping a close eye on this piece of casting.

Other actresses such as Lindsay Lohan, Alive Eve, Rosamund Pike, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Rachel McAdams, Malin Ackerman, and Dianna Agron are also rumored to be in contention for the role.

Hi Dean

Jim Sturgess

After just watching jim Sturgess onscreen for a couple of hours, I am now most excited about the prospect of him as Dexter!!! Can't wait! He is so cute and can act! Bring on July 28.

Breaking In

Breaking In is a new comedy that has just been picked up by the Fox network.  It stars Christian Slater!  Yes - he of the stunningly romantic 'Bed of Roses', one of my favourite 90's films - 'Pump Up The Volume' , 'Heathers' and 'Interview With A Vampire' to name just a few of his gems.  That quirked eyebrow and his numerous brushes with the law defined the 90's for me.


I was keen to give 'Breaking In' a viewing on his name alone but the reason it originally appealed to me is the casting of Michael Rosenbaum - or Lex Luthor.  Originally supposed to be a guest appearance, his performance was so well received by audiences that they have signed Michael up as a regular.  I'm very much looking forward to seeing Michael in a different role, but I am even more curious to see him with hair after 10 years of playing the very bald Lex.

They've Cast Martha Kent

A couple of days ago it was announced that Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the adoptive mother of Kal-El/Superman/Clark Kent in the new Superman movie.  What a fabulous piece of casting, although Lois is going to have to be one hell of a live wire to get us to drag our eyes away from Mrs Kent!  Diane is a favourite here at the hollow since her days playing Cherry in The Outsiders.
Diane is the first actor to join the film since Henry Cavill was cast as the Man of Steel in January.

"This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman,” Director Zack Synder said in the release. “We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

It's a big thumbs up from us.
