summer coda - trailer

SUMMER CODA is an Aussie film, starring Rachael Taylor, Alex Dimitriades, Jackie Weaver, Susie Porter, nathan Phillips and set amongst the orange groves of Mildura.

The story is of repressed emotions, hidden motives, relationships both lost and found and love. I think it looks alright, and am looking forard to watching it after it opens on October 21.

Lizey, this is what i'm talking about........

EASY A - the review

It's been on our 'movies we're waiting for ' list for over a year now. See original post here. And finally we have seen it, a sneaky little peek.

The film is the cutest film I've seen for a while. Smart and funny! The first thing I did when I left the cinema was to check out who wrote this film. By the way it's Bert V Royal. the reason for my enquiry was because it felt like someone my age who grew up in the eighties must have written it. Bert is actually about 33 but is very connected with his eighties film vibe. So many references that sadly may be lost on the teen audience that this film is essentially targeted at. Think 'Say Anything', 'Can't Buy Me Love' and anything written by john Hughes. Bert you are a genius, the script is clever, funny and smart.

It's essentially about a pretty straight girl, who tells a little white lie about her virginity, which starts a rumour that gets crazily out of control. The story is all told to the backdrop of the novel 'The Scarlett Letter'.

Emma Stone is amazing as the sarcastic Olive, and my new girl crush! Love her! The supporting cast do a great job. Special mention to Patricia Clarkson and Stanley tucci who play olive's parents. They steal every scene they are in. Amanda Bynes in what was to be her last role before retiring, plays the goody two shoes to perfection. Cam Gigandet, as her boyfriend, doesn't get much screen time and does disappoint! One of the concerns I had prior to seeing the film, was the casting of Penn Badgley as the love interest, let me just say that Dan Humphrey does nothing for me, however, Woodchuck Todd does!!!

"I wish my life was like an eighties movie"

The one liners come thick and fast, as do the 80's movies references. This is a fun flick and i for one, will definitely be seeing it again.

We are not the only ones......

Ryan Gosling's Band Performs for Old Folks

If you love Ryan a little, watch until the 10 minute mark, after which you will love him a lot!!!! It's worth the wait!

Somewhere

I think Sofia Coppola is a great film maker. Her latest offering is SOMEWHERE. I think it looks beautiful.

I love it when someone reaches back in time and drags an actor out of the past and gives them a great role that they really shine in. Watch this trailer and tell me that this is now happening for Stephen Dorff. Dakota's little sister Elle Fanning plays his daughter.

The film releases in the US in December, will keep you posted about an Australian release date.

saturday is fantasy day - the letter Y

I'm just not feeling it for any Y's today! So here is someone with Y in his name!!!!!

Look who else has a 'Y' in his name - in fact he has 3!!

Mr Billy Ray Cyrus

The Freebie

Check out our good friend Dax in this trailer for THE FREEBIE. It's a small indie comedy drama which was highly praised at Sundance this year, as was Dax's perfromance. I doubt it will get a theatrical release here in Australia, but I will be hunting it down somehow!

Sad Miley

hello........Liam is single........

127 hours

Remember the guy that fell down a cliff rockclimbing and had to chop off his own arm, well they are making a film about it. Brought to you from Danny Boyle, who is an ace filmmaker, he did Transpotting, Slumdog Millionaire etc. We posted about this film quite awhile ago, as there were original talks that had Ryan Gosling playing the lead, and at the time, I thought he would be great, but the great man is as fussy as all get out with his choices and clearly something didn't suit.

anyway, here is James Franco in the teaser trailer for 127 HOURS.

Supergirl

This is for the person who wore a Superman Tee to work today!!

Laura Vandervoort who we know will reprise her role as Clark's cousin Kara on season 10 of Smallville, revealed that she won't just come back quietly for the final season.

"Kara returns in a very heroic way," Vandervoort says. "When I found out this could be my last episode, I thought it would be great to see a quick glimpse of her in the uniform before she takes off."
The actress will get her wish.

"You really see her as Supergirl," says producer Kelly Souders. "Not the whole outfit, but her wardrobe will have evolved even a little more than Clark's. She's less Kara and way more Supergirl."

We've all been dying to see Clark finally wear the Superman suit and it looks like Kara will have a lot of influence in Clark's transformation into Superman.

Zac's New Lady

Taylor Schilling, one of the stars of NBC's recently canceled medical drama "Mercy," has nabbed the coveted female lead opposite Zac Efron in "The Lucky One," a romantic drama based on the Nicholas Sparks novel.  Now that is one very lucky lady.

We've talked about this movie before but to give you a re-cap - Zac stars as a U.S. Marine who's survived three tours of duty in Iraq and attributes his good luck to a photograph he carried of a woman (Schilling) he doesn't even know. When he returns to the States, he sets out to find her.

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

We have been following this film for awhile, and it opens here in Australia on Sept 2.

'The most talked-about movie at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and the winner of the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT combines comedic surprise with poignant emotional truth in a funny, vibrant, and richly drawn portrait of a modern family.' (thanks rotten tomatoes)

Watch the trailer below for a recap!

The Hollow has 3 x double passes to a special screening at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville on Sunday night at 7pm. The first 3 to respond get the passes!!!

Another Hit?

Zac and Vanessa are off to Maui but it's Vanessa's outfit we're interested in - another winner as far as I'm concerned.

Make It Or Break It

I think I've found myself another new show. 'Make It Or Break It' is a drama series that focuses on the lives of teen gymnasts who strive to make it to the Olympic Games.  Sound right up my alley?  I think so.
Best I check it out.

Would You Buy This Comic?

Blimey, that's creepy!

Congratulations

Melissa and Joey Update

Just watched the pilot and apart from the fact that the dubbing was out on my download, I loved it.  It was a little stilted at first but about a third of the way in it really warmed up and I giggled through the rest of the episode.  Melissa and Joey have a great rapport on screen and they are both as appealing as they were back in the day.
There is a reason they were both insanely popular with their audiences and that skill is still very much in evidence today.
I will absolutely be tuning in again.

Glad I wasn't At This Festival

The lead singer of  British pop trio Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, climbed a telecommunications mast behind the main stage at a Belgian rock festival and leaped to his death in the parking lot below, police said Saturday.

Twenty-two-year-old Charles Haddon died late Friday during the Pukkelpop festival in Hasselt, a town in eastern Belgium. District attorney Marc Rubens said police were treating the death as a suicide.

On Thursday, Michael Been, frontman for the U.S. group The Call, died of an apparent heart attack at the same festival. The 60-year-old was working as the soundman for his son's band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Sounds like a fun festival

Look What Britney Tweeted...

Looks like Brit as definitely making an appearence on the Britney/Britnay episode of GLEE!
GLEE can not come back soon enough as far as we're concerned.

A bit of old school Faithless for a Saturday night....

More TV News

CBS has announced that Michael J. Fox will guest star on The Good Wife.

Michael, best known for his long-time role on the brilliant Family Ties and forced to step down from Spin City in 2001 due to a Parkinson's Disease diagnosis, is a fantastic addition to a brilliant show.

My Latest TV Gem.

Anyone who has spent any time with my family knows that one of our family favourites is Sabrina The Teenage Witch - well I have very exciting news....
Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina) is back doing sitcom and not only that... she's doing it with Joey Lawrence! Just in case you were asleep or not born in the 90's, Joey starred as Joey Russo, the guy with the luxurious mullet who said "Whoa!" a lot when he was on "Blossom."
Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence were teen sitcom stars in the 1990s. They were huge -- huge!

In a retro TV dream Joey and Melissa have teamed up to star in the new sitcom - "Melissa & Joey"
Here's the deal - Melissa plays a harried city council member who finds herself taking care of her teenage niece and nephew. She has to do this because her sister is in federal prison and her brother-in-law has vanished after a dodgey scheme has imploded.

Joey  plays one of the people who lost all his money to the missing brother-in-law. Now he's living in his Porsche, which is about to be repo'd. He hunts down Melissa at a city hall news conference, thinking she'll know where her brother-in-law is hiding.

Melissa is so busy and scatterbrained that she's failing to connect with her niece and nephew and therefore needs a manny: someone to whip the kids into shape, lend structure, cook dinner etc. And Joe needs a house to live in and a job. There you go!

It turns out that this is actually a pretty good show - It is the ABC's biggest comedy debut on record EVER

I know what I'll be downloading tonight!!! (plus a few eps of Blossom)
